AIR MAIL
Sir,
6. # 81
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG.
8th June, 1937.
In continuation of my confidential despatch
10 of 1st June, 1937, on the subject of the Report of
the University (1937) Committee, I have the honour to
inform you that the matter was further considered at
a meeting of the Council of the University held on 4th
June, 1937, when the following resolution was
unanimously adopted:-
2.
"That the Council do refer the Report to the
Senate with the request that that body, having referred the relevant portions of the Report to the Boards of the Faculties, will in due course transmit to the Council its views on the Report together with the views of the Boards of the Faculties.
The Council would be grateful if, in setting out its own views on the Report, the Senate could indicate the extent to which it agrees or disagrees with the several views recorded by the Boards of the Faculties."
The University is now in vacation and no
further action is to be expected until the Report is
considered in detail by the Boards of the several
Faculties and by the Senate in September. As the annual
Budget is not presented to the Court of the University
until November it is anticipated that there will still
be time to consider any agreed retrenchments which
could be effected in 1938.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
W. G. A.ORMSBY-GORE, P.C., M.P.,
&C.,
&C., &c.
